Pérouges to Morestel

The weather was kind to us again today and we had a great ride down from the hilltop town of Pérouges towards the Rhone, where we picked up the Via Rhôna cycle path again before heading south towards Morestel, visiting some small villages and historical sites along the way.

It was a relatively flat ride by fields of maize and sunflowers and we could see the alps getting larger as we rode along. We took it easy, having a long lunch stop by the riverbank and visiting a couple a cafés for snacks. We are getting a little saddle sore and stopped frequently towards the end of the ride.

Approaching Morestel Iwas a bit apprehensive about the accommodation as it was in a gîtes de France place run by Franciscan sisters. I had visions of sparse rooms and basic services. it was quite the opposite. The entry was through a walled garden and the rooms were generous, well furnished and  very clean. The view from the window is outstanding as the rooms are in a building high on the hill and the alps are in view. The hosts we're charming and I am looking forward to breakfast tomorrow. the furnishings in the room are worth a mention. They look like they were made by craftsmen, purchased in the 1920's  or 1930's and have clearly been looked after ever since.
